This morning in the field, as I bent to gather my red clover flower medicine to bring home and dry, I touched a blossoming plant stalk with just enough forceful tenderness that a puff of pollen billowed over the red clover patch. Only my eyes saw it, so invisible and ephemeral it was.
My mind imagined how that tiny cloud of pollen could totally effect someone’s world…turning their sinuses into crazy mess of inflammation and congestion.
My mind then went on to ponder how sometimes it is the most unnoticed, invisible things in the world that effect us so greatly.
A word of love, or hatred, carelessly written in an email or half heard in a whisper.
A hidden smile…or a scowl.
An event that took place on the other side of the world that we read about in the newspaper…an act of violence or goodwill.
When we consider the fact of our connectedness on this planet…the way in which we live in a field where everything affects everything else, it’s a wonder we sort out our lives and emotions.. To believe that we are unaffected by the horrors of war, poverty, environmental destruction, species loss, greed and more, is perhaps foolish. I understand that the holographic field of consciousness that we live and breathe is sometimes filled with a growing emotional chaos that can effects our every moment….we walk in a growing fear based sea that absolutely has us swimming in currents that amplify our personal experiences in those realms.
There are times I wake feeling emotions that I know are not simply of my life…I am simply tuning into what is in the invisible world of which I am a part.
So the next time you wake with anger, but have no reason to feel it with your partner or children, consider the possibility that it is a puff of anger pollen from a distant field of grass, that you have simply breathed in. If we can then generate peace and bring Love in to meet that, perhaps we have been partners in peacemaking for the world.
I return here to the deep South African wisdom of 'Ubuntu' …”I am because you are because I am.” This is not just with other humans but with all things…plants, animals, stones, soil, dreams …all. We effect others and are affected by so much … how shall we navigate our feelings with perspective now and what will we offer up to the world in return?
